New Drivers Apply for a provisional driving license using a D1 Form obtained from most major post offices or alternatively online. Send the completed D1 form, payment and 2 passport photos to the DVLA. Eyesight - if you are unsure of the quality of your eyesight it may be worth booking a check-up with the opticians. The regulations state you must be able to read the new style number plates from 20.5 meters away (66 feet). You must also be medically fit to drive, thus check with your GP or the medical branch of the DVLA if you are unsure about any medication you are currently taking or any existing health problems. NB. You may have driving lessons before you pass your theory test, although you cannot book the practical test until you pass the Driving Theory test.
The final stage is your Practical Driving Test, a hands-on test which may last up to 40 minutes. You have up to 2 years to take this after you pass your Driving Theory Test. After Passing
